How to Locate Your Sample

  1. On the right panel, activate "LOW MAG".

  2. Use the "Trackball" to move the stage and locate the area of interest. Bring the area of interest to the center of the screen.

  3. Use the "Selector" to adjust the magnification in the range of 40-60k.

  4. Use the "Brightness" knob (on the left panel) to adjust the brightness & size of the beam when increasing/decreasing magnification with the Selector.

  5. Shift the beam to the center of the screen by using "Shift X" and "Shift Y" (on the left panel and right panel, respectively). The beam should be centered at any time of operation.

  6. Switch to the "MAG 1".

  • The "LOW MAG" mode is used for surveying purposes; while the "MAG 1" mode is normal TEM magnification mode.

  • In the "LOW MAG" mode, the objective lens is disabled, in the "MAG 1" mode, the objective lens is enabled.

  • For advanced users, you can check your sample using the SAED (to show crystallinity) as most of the contamination tends to be amorphous.
